Timaru’s port prepares for arrival of longest cruise ship yet

Staff at Timaru’s port have undergone special training in the Netherlands in preparation for the arrival of the longest cruise ship next February.
PrimePort Timaru commercial and marine manager Andrew Pye described the visit of the Grand Princess, one of 11 scheduled for the 2026/27 cruise ship season so far, as a “significant milestone’’.
The Grand Princess was 290 metres long and according to Princess Cruises, which owned the cruise ship, could carry up to 3100 guests and a crew of 1150.
