Students start careers in South Canterbury through youth transition initiative

Six months on from the creation of a strategy to find careers for school leavers, the project has already borne fruit. In July, Aoraki Development (AD) launched the Youth Transition Initiative, to connect secondary school students with the career opportunities available to them in South Canterbury.

AD chief executive Nigel Davenport, said the "overarching aim" of the initiative had been to "expose, educate and excite the youth, their parents and the staff so that they can make as fully informed a decision as possible". A key feature of the initiative had been sector days, where businesses threw open their doors for students, teachers and their parents to see what roles they could offer.
