Steven Joyce talks skills shortage on SC visit

Steven Joyce in Timaru Increasing tertiary provision and making the most of technology are key steps to addressing South Canterbury's skills shortage, according to Economic Development Minister Steven Joyce.

Joyce spoke to members of the South Canterbury Chamber of Commerce at a lunch event in Timaru on Tuesday, 31 August.

Following the lunch, he addressed concerns raised by businesses in the South Canterbury Labour Market Survey.

The Timaru District Council-commissioned survey found many South Canterbury firms were struggling in the face of labour shortages that threatened to slow business growth.
