New paint job for historic building in Timaru’s CBD

A historic building in central Timaru is undergoing a paint job for the first time in about 30 years, a job considered more than just a maintenance exercise by the trust that bought the building eight years ago.
The repainting of the former Customhouse building, in Strathallan St, now home to the Steak@CustomsHouse restaurant, is part of an ongoing programme of conservation and maintenance by the Timaru Civic Trust.
“Given the age and construction of the building, regular upkeep is essential to protect the plastered brickwork from weathering and deterioration,” trust chairperson Josh Newlove said.
