Cheaper housing, job opportunities the key to attracting new residents to Timaru district

Blair Hingston​ is ticking off goals most 22-year-olds could only dream about.

The former Hamilton man moved to Timaru four months ago to take up a new job in human resources and has already bought his first house, advanced in his career and adopted a German Shepherd puppy.

The 22-year-old's story features in two of Aoraki Development's new promotional campaign videos as part of a drive, launched in Auckland this week, targeting newly qualified young people and families to move to the Timaru district for jobs and affordable housing. The aim is to attract a skilled workforce to the district.
