A carrot processing plant at Washdyke reached a major milestone on Wednesday, as its millionth metric tonne of carrots arrived.

Juice Products New Zealand (JPNZ), which has been wholly owned by the Japanese Sumitomo Corporation since 2016, celebrated the milestone and announced plans for expansion during a ceremony in Timaru.

JPNZ chief executive Chris Renfree said the milestone, which equated to a billion kilos of carrots, was the result of decades of commitment from growers, factory staff, transport companies, and customers working together.
